Upcoming Vote on Deer Hunting Looms Over Solon's Deer Plans

Ward 2 Councilman Bob Pelunis said the city spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on sharpshooting earlier this decade, only to stop the program and have the deer problem become as bad if not worse than it was before.

"What do we really
have to show for that money?" he said.

Deer Plan Passed to Solon Council

The plan was recommended by a 2-1 vote, with councilmen Bill Russo and Rick Bell approving it and Councilman Ed Kraus voting against it. Kraus said he approves of most of the plan, including lethal methods, but he is against bow hunting, which is part of the plan.

Hinkel pushes Fairview Park to adopt new animal neglect laws

FAIRVIEW PARK Thanks to efforts by Ward 4 Councilman John Hinkel, the city has adopted new animal-neglect laws.

On May 16, City Council passed an ordinance that added several new sections to the city’s laws covering animal neglect, animal cruelty, animal abandonment, dog tethering, failure to restrain a dog in a motor vehicle, as well as dog shelter design standards.
